Jan Vertonghen has expressed his joy at finally making the move to Tottenham Hotspur from Ajax.

Despite a fee between the two clubs having been agreed some time ago, a contract dispute over a portion of the transfer amount Vertonghen believed he was entitled to slowed down the process.

In recent days though talks to find a solution intensified and now the 25-year-old is heading to play his football in the English Premier League next season; Ajax will receive €12M in return for a man who had but 12 months remaining on his contract in Amsterdam.

And for Vertonghen, the feeling is one of delight and relief.

"I am proud", said the Belgian.

"It took time, but I am happy to be at Tottenham and I am looking forward to playing for this club", he added.

"I am 25 and I feel ready for the Premier League. I feel ready."

Vertonghen got a taste of playing against Premier League opposition last season with Ajax faced Manchester United in the Europa League and was judged to have acquitted himself well.

It is a competition he will play in again for Spurs next season.
