Liverpool manger Brendan Rodgers is not planning to make wholesale changes to his squad this summer and insists the Reds have only made three or four player enquiries.
The Merseyside giants were well adrift of the Premier League’s top four last season, form which cost former manager Kenny Dalglish his job, but Rodgers appears to be largely happy with the group at his disposal.
And so there will not be large scale changes to the playing staff despite Liverpool having a huge amount of ground to make up on the teams above them.
“For players to be associated with Liverpool is great”, Rodgers told the club’s official site.
“But the reality is we’ve only made three or four enquiries about players and we’re hopeful we can close out one deal this week, maybe two.”
And while one or two signings might be close, Rodgers insists he is not the type of manager to publicly discuss his transfer targets.
“I will never speak about targets and possible players. It’s not something I like to do.
“All I will say is that there has been a whole raft of players linked with coming to Liverpool and there are very, very few of them that are actually real targets for us.”
Rodgers is though aiming to snap up at least one player ahead of the club’s pre-season tour of North America. The Reds depart next week.
