Roberto Mancini has penned a new five-year contract with Manchester City.

The Italian boss will now remain at Eastlands until the summer of 2017 in a move which will finally put paid to speculation that the former Inter coach could head elsewhere.

In recent weeks it emerged that French side Monaco offered Mancini a five-year contract, which he rejected, while the Italian has also been linked with the vacant Russia job.

But Mancini is delighted to be staying at the club he led to last season’s Premier League title.

"I am delighted to be able to give all of my efforts to Manchester City for a further five years", Mancini told the club’s official website.

"The opportunity which exists to build on our recent success is enormous. Manchester City is a fantastic football club, from the owner, chairman, board and the executive team, through to the players, staff and fans.

"I am very much looking forward to the challenges and excitement ahead."
