Fiorentina have abandoned their proposed swoop for Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh due to the Morocco international’s wage demands.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger confirmed on Sunday night that an offer from La Viola for the former Bordeaux man had been received and was being considered.
But now the Serie A side have concluded that the salary Chamakh picks up at the Emirates Stadium is an amount they cannot hope to replicate.
"We haven’t made Chamakh an offer", said Fiorentina director Daniele Prade.
"He earns over three million a year", added the Italian.
Fiorentina will now switch their attention elsewhere, with the dream of an all-Moroccan strikeforce by signing Chamakh and pairing him with countryman Mounir El Hamdaoui now over.
Chamakh’s future at the Gunners is in some doubt this summer, with the arrivals of Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski having pushed him further down the pecking order.
