Former Real Madrid captain Raul has revealed that he was not forced out of the club and left the Spanish giants in order to enjoy a new experience.
Raul started his career at Los Blancos and was an integral part of the Galacticos side which won a number of trophies in the early 2000s. The Spanish international appeared in 550 La Liga games for Real Madrid and netted 228 times.
The talented forward left his childhood club in the summer of 2010 after he fell down the pecking order and was far from the first-choice striker. Raul had one year left on his contract when he joined German side Schalke.
“I spent the best years of my life at Real Madrid and I was fortunate to play with a great generation of players and win major titles”, commented the Spaniard.
“I had another year of contract left, but I chose to live a new experience, and indeed I did enjoy my experience with Schalke”, said the legendary forward.
Raul recently joined Qatari side Al-Sadd after a two-year stint at Schalke, and will be hoping that he can produce the magic for the Middle East outfit which he displayed with the Galacticos throughout his 16-year stay at the Spanish giants.
