Chelsea defender John Terry has been found not guilty of a racially aggravated public order offence.

Terry had been accused of the charge for allegedly racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand.

But Westminster Magistrates court has now accepted that Terry did not racially abuse Ferdinand and the England international has been acquitted of the charge.

“Chelsea FC notes and respects the decision of the magistrate today”, said Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck, responding to the verdict.

“We are pleased that John can now put his mind to football and can go back to training, and can do what he has done for many years.”

It remains to be seen whether the English Football Association will revisit the issue, but for now Terry can sleep soundly in the knowledge that a court of law has found him not guilty.
