Argentine midfielder Maxi Rodriguez has returned to his homeland by signing for Newell’s Old Boys.

 

Rodriguez has left English Premier League giants Liverpool to join up with the club at which he began his professional career.

 

The technically gifted midfielder arrived at Liverpool in January 2010 from Spanish side Atletico Madrid and went on to make 73 appearances in a red shirt.

 

He scored 17 goals in his time at Anfield and quickly became popular amongst the club’s supporters.

 

Rodriguez started his career with Newell’s Old Boys in 1999 before being snapped up by La Liga club Espanyol.

 

From there he moved to the Vicente Calderon, staying with Atletico Madrid for five years.

 

At international level he has won 43 caps for Argentina, scoring 12 times.
