Real Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa has backed his side’s potential signing of Luka Modric from Tottenham Hotspur.
Modric is expected to join the Spanish champions from Spurs in the near future, with manager Jose Mourinho keen to add the Croatian to his squad, despite wanting a playing group numbering only 22 for the new season.
And it appears that amongst the current Real Madrid players there is an assumption that Modric is already all but a new team-mate.
Asked about the playmaker, Arbeloa backed his potential arrival, praising the player’s silky skills.
"Modric is a great player. I am very happy that he could join Real Madrid", Arbeloa told Indonesian site Kompas, with Los Blancos having travelled to the country to play a charity match.
The former Liverpool defender insists that Modric cannot expect to walk into the side however, as Real Madrid already boast serious strength in depth in midfield.
"We have many good midfielders and they all have to compete for a spot."
