The most expensive player in the history of Ligue 1, Brazilian defender Thiago Silva, will wear the number 2 jersey for French side Paris Saint-Germain.

Silva’s transfer from AC Milan to PSG was officially announced on Saturday and his shirts became available for fans to purchase yesterday with number 2 written on its back. The Brazilian wore number 33 on his back for the Serie A giants.

The player signs for the club after a long protracted transfer saga which saw a lot of drama before the Ligue 1 giants eventually got their man.

The Rossoneri had rejected a very strong bid earlier in the summer for the 27-year-old, but did not have the heart to reject such a tempting offer this time around.

Les Parisiens had to pay €42M plus €7M in bonuses for the former AC Milan defender and will be hoping that shirt sales can bring back some of the amount invested in the star player.

The jersey number was previously occupied by Brazilian wing-back Marcos Ceara who left for Cruzeiro.
