Luka Modric would thrive at Real Madrid, former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Cesar Sanchez believes.
The Spanish shot-stopper, who has witnessed Modric’s ability at close quarters, has backed Real Madrid’s pursuit of the Croatian playmaker and is not surprised Los Blancos want to bring him to the Bernabeu.
Sanchez turned out for Tottenham in 2008, although he could only manage one appearance for the club, in the League Cup against Liverpool.
Now 40 years old, the Spaniard plays for Villarreal.
“Modric fitted in very well. He’s a great guy, said Sanchez, who was there when the Croatian joined Spurs from Dinamo Zagreb, to Marca.
“He is a very good player. That summer lots of new players arrived and he fitted in perfectly, both within the club and the Premier League. He was very young at the time. Apart from being a great player he also has a lot of personality”, he added.
It is little surprise then that Sanchez is backing Modric to do well in the pressure-cooker atmosphere in which Real Madrid operate.
“He would fit in perfectly because of his characteristics and because good players adapt to anywhere”, stressed the keeper.
“He is a better player now than he was then, of course. He’s more of a leader and he feels more important. That means that he has grown up.”
A switch to Real Madrid still looks likely for Modric this summer, with the two clubs not far apart in terms of valuations.
