Fulham striker Clint Dempsey is on Liverpool’s radar, the club’s manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed.

Yesterday confusion reigned about the 29-year-old joining up at Anfield after the club’s owners Fenway Sports Group mistakenly claimed that the player had joined "a team which came within one game of winning the FA Cup", last season on a video blurb.

Fulham quickly denied having agreed to sell Dempsey to Liverpool and stressed that the American, who scored 23 goals for the Cottagers last season, is not for sale.

Rodgers has now confirmed though that the United States international is on the Reds’ radar.

"Clint is a player we’ve enquired about, it is as simple as that", Rodgers told Liverpool’s official site.

"Ian Ayre, our managing director, has spoken with the club to see what the position is. That is where we’re at.

"He’s a very talented player but we don’t like to talk about other clubs’ players."

Dempsey would be a surprising signing for Liverpool given the club’s emphasis on bringing in younger players.

However, the Reds are clearly keen to snap up the Fulham man.
