According to Spanish daily AS, Fernando Gago and Sergio Canales are set to join Valencia after an agreement was reached between Real Madrid and Los Che.

Gago spent last season on loan at Roma and the Italian side were favourites to snap up the player this summer. However, in a quick turn of events, with Roma fretting over the fee to be paid, Valencia have jumped into pole positon.

The Argentine joined the reigning La Liga champions in 2007 and made 92 appearances for the Galacticos over five years.

Canales signed for Valencia on a two-year loan deal from Real Madrid last season. However, it seems that the player has been able to impress the Valencia management enough that the club have made a move to tie him up on a permanent transfer just one year into his two-year loan term.

The Spanish attacking midfielder signed for Real Madrid in 2010 from Racing Santander, but only made 10 appearances for the Bernabeu outfit.

Buying the pair combined will cost Los Che €9M.

Gago is believed to have agreed to take a 50% pay-cut to join Valencia, while Real Madrid have put in a buy-back clause for Canales and will have the option to purchase him next season.

Valencia fans will hope that both the players prosper at the club and help the team challenge the big two in La Liga next season.
