Javier Mascherano is confident that he will soon sign a new contract with Barcelona.
The Argentine enforcer has featured regularly for the Blaugrana since joining the club in the summer of 2010 from Liverpool.
Mascherano is a popular figure at the Camp Nou and it is thought there will be few problems extending a deal which currently runs out in 2014.
Asked about talks over a new contract by El Mundo Deportivo, Mascherano commented “They are on track and hopefully we will agree a deal quickly.
“I am happy. I feel appreciated and I want to stay for several more years.”
The 28-year-old clocked up 31 appearances in La Liga last season in a sign of his growing importance.
At international level Mascherano has picked up 81 caps for Argentina.
