Marseille are in need of a left-back and are looking to engineer a loan deal for full-back Taye Taiwo.
The Nigerian joined AC Milan from Les Phoceens last summer, but after the player failed to settle in Serie A, his old club are back to help him find a way out of Italy.
According to French sources, the Ligue 1 side are looking for reinforcements in the left-back position after Djimi Traore was released by the club this summer when his contract expired. Marseille may have found a perfect fit to fill their problem area in the Nigerian.
Taiwo endured a hard struggle at the San Siro after his transfer from L’OM and found himself playing only four times for the Rossoneri. AC Milan were so disappointed with Taiwo’s performances that the club loaned him to English side Queens Park Rangers in January.
The Serie A giants are ready to part with the 27-year-old now on a one-year loan deal. However, the player’s wages may well prove to be a stumbling block for Marseille who would find it difficult to balance their wage bill if they sign a man who earns a staggering €2M annually.
The club have also earmarked an alternative for Taiwo if the need arises in another Milan player – Djamel Mesbah. The 27-year-old Algerian joined il Diavolo last season in January.
According to sources close to Marseille’s sporting director Jose Anigo, Les Phoceens are looking to sign one of the two players.
It will be interesting to see which Rossoneri player leaves the team for a French side now after two of the club’s best players Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva joined French giants Paris Saint-Germain a few days ago.
