Arsenal have rejected Manchester United’s offer for Robin van Persie.

According to the BBC, the Gunners have dismissed the Old Trafford outfit’s bid, while similar offers from Manchester City and Juventus have also been deemed as falling short.

All of the trio are keen to snap up Van Persie and are believed to have submitted offers in the £15M-20M range – not enough for Arsene Wenger’s men who, although realising the Dutchman must be sold this summer to bring in a fee, believe his true value, even with only 12 months left on his contract, is closer to £25M.

Van Persie is set not to travel with the Arsenal squad tomorrow when they depart on their Asian pre-season tour and the race for his signature is hotting up.

The striker, who scored 30 goals in the Premier League last season, has refused to extend a contract at the Emirates Stadium which expires in 2013, citing a difference of opinion with the club’s board over Arsenal’s future direction.

Now Van Persie’s future will be elsewhere, although the Gunners faithful would prefer it lies abroad rather than at either of the Manchester clubs, where he could do the side direct damage in the English top flight.

It remains to be seen by just how much any of the trio will increase their offers for the Dutchman.
