Ajax are hoping to snap up Japanese winger Ryo Miyaichi from Arsenal.

The Amsterdam side’s new director of football, Marc Overmars, who enjoys a good relationship with the Gunners, courtesy of a prior spell at the club, confirmed to Dutch daily De Telegraaf that the 19-year-old is on Ajax’a agenda.

Ajax have been forced to look elsewhere for a wide option after they lost out in the race for Luciano Narsingh, who has joined PSV Eindhoven.

Now attention has been firmly focused on Miyaichi, and Ajax will approach Arsenal with a view to taking the youngster on loan for next season.

Frank de Boer’s men have already seen Miyaichi at close quarters in the Eredivisie after he had a spell on loan with Feyenoord last year, while he also had a trial period at Ajax before ultimately opting to sign for Arsenal.

At Arsenal, Arsene Wenger may not be able to offer the 19-year-old the regular first team football to speed up his develop and, just as the player spent six months on loan at Bolton Wanderers last season, a further stint away from the Emirates Stadium could be on the cards.

Ajax look set to have to wait to close a deal for Miyaichi though, with Wenger wanting to think over whether to loan the Japanese before jumping into a commitment.
