Arsenal may find themselves waiting for players to leave this summer before they can make further acquisitions, the club’s manager Arsene Wenger has admitted.
The Gunners have already been active in the transfer market, bringing in German striker Lukas Podolski and Frenchman Olivier Giroud – but more fresh faces may have to wait.
A number of players look surplus to requirements at the Emirates Stadium, including striking trio Nicklas Bendter (a target for AC Milan), Marouane Chamakh and Park Chu-Young. Both Bendtner and Park have not been named in the club’s 24-man squad for their Asian pre-season tour.
But with fringe players on impressive salaries, the Gunners could have difficulty offloading out-of-favour performers; Fiorentina have already balked at Chamakh’s wage demands.
And Wenger admits that further additions will be governed by who leaves.
"We are still looking to add one or two players but it depends also on how many go out because we have to respect the squad number", admitted the Frenchman to his club’s official site.
"It’s important to respect that so before we get players in we have to get some players out. That has not happened yet, the market is very quiet.
"I cannot tell you anything concrete about the situation [regarding those who might leave] because if they are not finding clubs they will stay here and be players of the squad. At the moment I cannot give you any concrete or clear indication."
