Out-of-favour Barcelona attacking midfielder Ibrahim Afellay has picked up two admirers from the Bundesliga.
New Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova has informed the 26-year-old that if he chooses to remain at the Camp Nou for next season, the amount of playing time he will receive could be limited, putting the ball in Afellay’s court to consider a move.
Afellay has already attracted interest, with French giants Lille having bid for the Dutchman, while in Italy Inter are keen, and an English trio of Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked.
But now the Holland international looks set to receive the opportunity to move to Germany’s Bundesliga.
And it is Ruhr rivals Borussia Dortmund and Schalke who are keen on the Barcelona star.
Both can offer Afellay Champions League football for next season, although Dortmund’s status as champions of Germany could be a point in their favour.
However, at Schalke Afellay could link up with Dutch national team colleague Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
It remains to be seen where Afellay will play his football in 2012/13, but the race for his signature is hotting up.
