Italian giants Juventus are plotting to pair Robin van Persie up with Luis Suarez in what would be a devastating strikeforce in Turin next season.

According to British broadcaster the BBC, the Serie A champions are first putting the wheels in motion to bring Arsenal’s wantaway forward Van Persie to Italy, with a promise that he will be joined soon after by Liverpool hitman Suarez.

Juventus’ initial approach to Arsenal is believed to have been turned down, but the Gunners would understandably rather Van Persie were sold to a club abroad, rather than a Premier League rival.

While Antonio Conte’s men cannot compete on the salary front with the Dutchman’s other suitors, Manchester City and Manchester United, they can offer Van Persie a new experience combined with Champions League football and serious trophy hunting in Italy.

And the 28-year-old could be paired up with Suarez.

Juventus have long admired Suarez and believe the Uruguayan would leave Liverpool for Turin if a deal can be agreed with the Merseyside outfit.

The former Ajax man is still deeply unhappy with the racism scandal involving Patrice Evra which engulfed him last season and resulted in an eight-match ban and £40,000 fine, while he also suffered much criticism for refusing to shake the Frenchman’s hand when Liverpool met Manchester United in February.

Suarez may be attracted to the idea of a fresh start in Italy, especially given that Liverpool look a long way off even a Champions League spot, let alone challenging for major trophies.

And while the Reds would understandably fight tooth and nail to keep their talisman, Suarez’ attitude could be key, with new boss Brendan Rodgers embarking on a revolution at Anfield that would need to be bought into by the player.
