Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that the Red Devils have made a bid for Arsenal striker Robin van Persie.
Ferguson is keen to bring the Dutchman, who has declared that he will not extend a contract which expires in 2013 with the Gunners, to Old Trafford, and sent an offer to the Emirates Stadium.
That offer is believed to have been rejected as Arsene Wenger’s men hold out for a higher transfer fee. Manchester United bid between £10M-15M, but the Gunners value Van Persie at a minimum of £25M, despite his contract situation.
Now Ferguson has officially confirmed that his side have entered the fray for the Holland international.
"Obviously Arsenal have given out the fact that we’ve made a bid for him", the legendary manager told MUTV.
"We try to keep business as close as possible to us until the moment we conclude a deal. There’s no point talking about something that might not happen", he added.
"There are other clubs interested in the player. We’ve shown an interest and that’s where we’re at at the moment."
Van Persie scored 30 goals in the Premier League last season and were Ferguson able to pair him up with Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford, the club would be sending out a serious message about their ambition to reclaim the title from Manchester City.
