Feyenoord defender Ron Vlaar is growing increasingly unlikely to leave De Kuip for Aston Villa this summer – and that is something the Dutchman is losing no sleep over as he still loves the Rotterdam giants.

Vlaar visited Aston Villa and met with the club’s manager Paul Lambert in talks which the Feyenoord man later described as positive, insisting he was impressed with the set-up at the English club.

Villa would have to pay €4M for Vlaar, meeting a clause in the player’s contract. But there has been no contact from the Premier League outfit in a turn of events which has baffled the Dutch side.

Now Vlaar does not see moving to Aston Villa as likely and feels connected to the Rotterdam giants in any case.

"Feyenoord is in my heart and I have been through a lot", Vlaar told RTV Rijnmond.

"The opportunity that I had, to leave for Aston Villa, I don’t think it is as likely now."

Feyenoord technical director Martin van Geel has also admitted to being confused by Aston Villa’s approach towards Vlaar, while coach Ronald Koeman has also called for clarification regarding his defender’s future.
