Atletico Madrid are concerned that striker Adrian could be preparing to leave the Vicente Calderon.

The goal-getter has been heavily linked with English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, who may choose to pay the 24-year-old’s buy-out clause of €18M and take him away from Diego Simeone’s men this summer.

Well aware that €18M is not a substantial figure for a player of Adrian’s quality, Atletico Madrid have made efforts to convince the striker to ink a new contract; his present deal expires in 2015.

But according to Madrid-based daily Marca, the Spanish side’s offer to increase Adrian’s current €1.2M per year salary to €3.5M, has been rejected by the player and his agent.

This has now fuelled concern at the Vicente Calderon that Adrian is leaving the door open to a move elsewhere before the summer transfer window slams shut.

Adrian will have a further chance to impress interested parties before the new La Liga season commences by turning in accomplished performances at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The striker has been included in Spain’s squad for the tournament and La Roja are expected to put together a strong tilt at the gold medal.

Adrian made 36 appearances in La Liga last season for Atletico Madrid, finding the back of the net seven times.

He was especially impressive in the club’s Europa League winning campaign, in which he clocked up 17 games and scored ten goals.
