Icelandic striker Eidur Gudjohnsen has left AEK Athens.
Gudjohnsen’s salary was proving to be difficult to afford for the Greek Super League outfit, who are, along with the wider country, suffering from the effects of the financial crisis and Eurozone implemented austerity.
Now the 33-year-old striker has departed the Greek capital.
Gudjohnsen has had a glittering career, turning out for the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea and PSV Eindhoven.
The striker had played for English Premier League side Stoke City before joining AEK, until departing the Potters in 2011.
