Valencia captain David Albelda has bemoaned the financial state of Spanish football, apart from the situation at Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Indeed, the midfielder has cast an eye over to events at the Bernabeu, where Jose Mourinho’s men are preparing to spend in excess of €30M to buy Luka Modric from Tottenham Hotspur and insists that such an amount would transform Valencia’s fortunes.

And for Los Che, the situation is difficult, with talent Jordi Alba having been sold to Barcelona already this summer to further balance the books.

"We have to realise that each year it is not easy", Albelda told Marca.

"Madrid and Barcelona are the only ones able to continue to invest each year and improve their squads with whoever they want, no matter if they cost €15M, €20M, €30M or €40M. The other teams have to face reality and sell, and this is very complicated. But we must recognise reality."

And the midfielder pondered what Valencia could do were they able to afford to splash out the amount Real Madrid are set to spend on Modric.

"This year we’ve lost Jordi Alba. And Madrid are the league champions, who have finished with 100 points and are now speaking about Modric for €30M or €40M.

"We could do wonders with €30M."
