Werder Bremen general manager Klaus Allofs has struck a confident note over the German side’s chances of loaning Kevin De Bruyne from Chelsea.
The Bundesliga outfit want to take the 21-year-old attacking midfielder for the 2012/13 campaign and have a good relationship with Chelsea, further boosted by recent negotiations which saw Marko Marin move from the club to Stamford Bridge.
And Werder Bremen feel firmly in the running for De Bruyne, even if real progress will need to wait until the Belgian returns from Chelsea’s US tour.
"It is on track", said Allofs about the swoop.
"We’ve been in contact with the player, his agent and the club for several months.
"But the transfer has not yet been finalised. A loan would be the best option for us. There is no question of buying him.
"Chelsea paid almost €10M to sign him in January."
Allofs further explained he hopes to be able to make progress on snaring the former Genk schemer soon.
"The deal is expected to be closed next week, when the English have returned from their tour of the US."
