Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has blasted speculation that the Bavarians have enquired about signing Nigel de Jong from Manchester City.
Sources in Holland had indicated that last season’s Champions League finalists were weighing up a swoop for the tough-tackling midfielder and had sounded out Roberto Mancini’s Citizens about the possibility.
And with Bayern Munich priced out of buying their preferred defensive midfield target in Athletic Bilbao’s Javi Martinez, a move for De Jong, a player with Bundesliga experience, appeared to make sense.
But now Rummenigge has stamped on that suggestion.
"We know that De Jong’s agent offers his player to everyone", said the Bayern Munich supremo to Sport Bild.
"But it is wrong to say that there is interest from Bayern", he added.
De Jong struggled to be a regular fixture in Mancini’s Manchester City side last season, though he was often turned to as an option off the bench.
The 27-year-old has just one year remaining on his contract at Eastlands.
