Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until he enters his 30s.
The six-year contract is the longest deal handed out to any player in the Citizens’ history and shows the amount of faith the club management have in the Belgian.
It was under the defender’s leadership that the Citizens won their first Premier League crown in 44 years last season, beating neighbours Manchester United to the title.
The Belgian looked delighted at having signed a new contract at the English giants and expressed his desire to help the club win even more trophies.
“I have been here since the beginning and I have seen everything at the club change inside and out. I have the feeling that I have contributed to it too”, said the centre back.
“It is good to know that I can be at City for another six years. It is a compliment that the club feels so highly of me”, revealed the 26-year-old.
The centre back hailed the fans’ love and support for him as the primary reason for penning a fresh deal with the reigning Premier League champions and said that with the squad present at Eastlands, he could go on to clinch a lot more medals too.
“I am good here. The fans have given me an incredible reception which is one of the main reasons that I signed this new deal”, explained Kompany. “My family is happy and there are so many more trophies to win at this club that is why it makes it so special.”
The 6ft 4in defender also spoke of his delight at having already won the FA Cup and the Premier League with the team and expressed his desire to win more silverware.
“Our title win was amazing and one of the best feelings ever for us and the fans. We have laid the foundations and now we want to win more. If we do that then we can be one of the most successful clubs for a long time to come and that is the aim”, said the Manchester City captain.
