Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has criticised big spending clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Chelsea for their continued disregard for UEFA’s financial fair play rules.

UEFA’s financial fair play regulations will take full effect in 2015 and club finances are already being monitored – all in order to stop clubs from overspending.

So far however it does not appear to have had an effect on a number of teams’ wealthy owners, who are splashing considerable amounts on transfer fees and player salaries in order to strengthen their squads.

Rummenigge, the chairman of European Clubs’ Association, has lashed out at such owners and shown his frustration at the lack of effectiveness of the financial fair play regulations.

“Last year Manchester City recorded a loss of €200M, and Chelsea €80M – despite the fact that the financial fair play rules allow no more than a loss of €15M”, the CEO of the Bavarian giants complained to German daily Bild.

The former German striker oozed fury about the transfer spending of Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint-Germain and insisted that their attitude in the transfer window showed complete disregard for UEFA’s financial fair play rules.

“What is happening at Paris Saint-Germain is incomprehensible. When I see the salary of Ibrahimovic which is €14.5M net per year, it makes me sick”, said the former European Footballer of the Year.

He opined that the ball is in UEFA president Michel Platini’s court to ensure that clubs stop spending outrageous amounts and start cutting their losses.

“This is now a litmus test for Platini. The fair financial play project is his baby”, insisted Rummenigge.
