Spanish right-back Alvaro Arbeloa has signed a two-year contract extension with Real Madrid which will keep him at the Bernabeu until 2016.
The Spanish international has become an integral part of the Real Madrid line-up after joining his childhood club in 2009 and the extension of his contract indicates the player’s importance in Jose Mourinho’s plans for the upcoming seasons.
The former Liverpool man expressed his delight at penning the two-year extension and thanked the club management for showing faith in his abilities.
“I am more than happy. It is an honour for me to be a part of this club”, said the 29-year-old.
“To be able to extend my contract by two years, until 2016, is a source of absolute joy. I am delighted that the club has faith in me and l hope it continues”, he added.
The former Deportivo La Coruna man has dreamt of retiring at the club where his football career started and even though he accepted that this may not be possible, the right-back hopes that this contract is not his last with Los Blancos.
“It is difficult to retire at this club because of the obligations and requirements that come with it. There are always the best players in the world here and when you get older it is difficult to maintain the level,” he explained.
“Nowadays players are extending their careers more than before and hopefully this will not be my last contract extension with Real Madrid”, he added.
