Newly signed Fiorentina midfielder Alberto Aquilani is hoping for a Liverpool reunion of sorts at La Viola with Dutch striker Ryan Babel.

Aquilani recently completed his move to Fiorentina from Liverpool, bringing an unhappy three-year stint on Merseyside to an end.

Fiorentina have also snapped up several other players, including Spanish midfielder Borja Valero, but the Serie A outfit have not finished their squad strengthening process yet – and Babel is on the club’s radar.

The striker, who left Liverpool in 2011 to join Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim, has been declared surplus to requirements by the German club, whose coach Markus Babbel was scathing in his criticism of the 25-year-old.

Aquilani however, who has seen Babel at close quarters from his time at Liverpool, would welcome the Dutchman to Fiorentina with open arms.

"I know him well and I played with Babel at Liverpool", said Aquilani, when asked about La Viola’s interest in the forward.

"He would be a good purchase for us", added the midfielder.

Aquilani also insisted he is looking forward to life with Fiorentina, who he feels really wanted him at the club.

"Why did I choose Fiorentina? Because they showed that they wanted to have me. It is an interesting adventure and I can do well here.

"I wanted to move to Fiorentina, but not on loan. I wanted some security"
