Monaco are eyeing a swoop for River Plate’s highly rated attacking midfielder Lucas Ocampos.

Claudio Ranieri’s men, who are aiming to win promotion back to the French top flight this season, are believed to have prepared a bid of some €12M for the 18-year-old and are hopeful of getting their man.

While River Plate would dearly love to keep hold of Ocampos, finances at the Argentine giants are tight, meaning club president Daniel Passarella may be forced to consider a deal.

Monaco are backed by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, who took control of the 2004 Champions League finalists in December 2011.

Ranieri’s men are expected to gain promotion from Ligue 2 this season, but already thoughts are being turned towards eventually challenging Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1.

The signing of Ocampos, rated as one of Argentina’s most promising young talents, would be a coup for the principality side.
