In-demand Marseille defender Nicolas N’Koulou is ready to spend at least one more season at the Stade Velodrome, despite interest from European powerhouses AC Milan and Manchester City.

N’Koulou has emerged as a target for the Rossoneri following their failure to agree a deal with Montpellier for Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, while Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini, also on the lookout for a centre-back, has been linked with making a bid; Barcelona too have been mooted as following the young defender’s progress.

And with Marseille’s financial position far from healthy, each have spied an opportunity to take the 22-year-old on a cut-price transfer.

But the Cameroon international is not being distracted by talk of a move, even though he admits it is more than flattering, and is focused on staying at the Stade Velodrome this season.

"As a player, it is a pleasure and gives you pride to know you please the biggest clubs at the moment", said N’Koulou.

"But you must calm down and not be distracted by it just because it says this here and it says that there. The key is to work and keep progressing.

"I am very attached to OM, I do not see me leaving the club this season."

The news will be a boost to Marseille fans, who well understand that replacing the talented defender before the transfer window closes would be tough.
