Daniel Agger has insisted he wants to remain at Liverpool, but accepts that the Merseyside giants may well take the decision out of his hands.
Manchester City are interested in the Denmark international, while Barcelona have also been keeping tabs on his situation.
Liverpool are believed to be ready to sell the centre-back for the right price as manager Brendan Rodgers looks to raise further funds to use in the summer transfer market.
And so, Agger may be a reluctant departure from Anfield this summer, if a bid arrives which matches Liverpool’s valuation of the 27-year-old.
"I would rather stay. I cannot imagine playing for any other club in England, but you never know if the club think it is better to sell", the ball-playing defender told Danish daily Politiken.
Agger has two years left on his current contract at Anfield and insists he has not been offered a new deal.
"I am fine with my situation, the club will have to decide what they want to do.
"I have heard nothing from them. I would rather stay. But that decision is not up to me at the moment.
"Liverpool can do a deal even though I have two years left on my contract, but I have not changed my mind on the subject.
"Sometimes you can end up in a position where it is not your decision."
It remains to be seen if an offer arrives for Agger before the transfer window closes, which Liverpool deem acceptable, but the Danish international has clearly been unsettled by recent events.
