Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck has signed a four-year deal at Old Trafford which will keep him at the club until 2016.
Welbeck spoke of his delight at having penned an extension and insisted that as a lifelong fan of Manchester United, he has never thought of playing for any team other than the Red Devils.
“Playing for United is all I’ve ever wanted to do – it’s the club I’ve supported all my life”, said the English international to the club’s official website.
The 21-year-old expressed his eagerness to do well in the upcoming season and to win trophies at Old Trafford. “I can’t wait for the challenge of the new season to play my part in helping the team compete for trophies” , he added.
Welbeck also praised Sir Alex Ferguson and the other world-class players in the team.
“I’m learning all the time from the best manager in the game and I’m keen for that to continue alongside the world-class players in the squad”, said the forward.
Ferguson also expressed his delight at having tied up the talented striker and revealed that the English forward has matured as a player in recent seasons.
“Danny has been with the club since he was eight years old and has made fantastic progress in the last couple of years”, said the Scottish manager.
"He has become an important player at international level as well, as the maturity of his performances at the European Championship showed.”
“This year is another important one for him. He has a bright future ahead of him”.
