Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has reiterated that the ball is very much in Hugo Lloris’ court with regards to a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.

Les Gones appear to have virtually agreed to sell the France number 1 to Spurs, but it remains for Lloris himself to iron out terms with the White Hart Lane outfit and give the green light to a switch to England.

It has been suggested that the fee for the 25-year-old will be around €16.5M.

"We are close to Tottenham and the decision must be taken by Hugo", Aulas told Lyon’s official website.

"The transfer can be completed before the end of the transfer window", he added.

Aulas was clear that the shot-stopper’s sale is driven by a need to bring down the wage bill at the Stade Gerland, rather than any desire to part company with such an accomplished performer.

And so, were Lloris to opt to remain with Lyon, Aulas would be delighted.

"Does it suit us for him to leave? From the moment we set our goal of lowering the wage bill the transfer was in the pipeline.

"But if he stays, we will be very happy."

Lloris is widely considered to be one of the finest goalkeepers in Ligue 1 and his departure will be a blow for Remi Garde’s men.

The Frenchman was in fine form for his country at this summer’s Euro 2012 in Poland/Ukraine.
