Real Madrid eased to a comfortable 3-0 win over Granada in La Liga last night, but the focus was squarely on Cristiano Ronaldo, who refused to celebrate either of his two goals.

The Portuguese star scored in the 26th and then 53rd minute, with Real Madrid’s third coming via Gonzalo Higuain in the 76th minute, after Granada had seen Borja Gomez sent off.

All eyes were on Ronaldo though and why he did not celebrate either of his strikes, with some suggesting it was down to being pipped by Andres Iniesta for the UEFA Best Player in Europe award on Thursday.

That was something Ronaldo denied, though he did insist he feels down for "professional reasons".

"I’m sad for professional reasons. This is why I did not celebrate my goals", said the forward.

"What happened with Iniesta has nothing to do with it.

"I will not talk about it and just focus on my games with the Portugal national team. Some things are more important."

Ronaldo did not finish the match against Granada, coming off in the 65th minute with a knock to the thigh.

It remains to be seen whether Ronaldo will expand on why he did not celebrate, but he did add "the people in the club know why."
