New Manchester City signing Maicon is hoping to eclipse the achievements of the English club’s two previous Brazilian players, Robinho and Elano.

The flying full-back joined Roberto Mancini’s men on transfer deadline day, sealing a switch from Italian giants Inter, a club with which he won the Champions League in 2010.

Maicon explained that he has arrived in England for a new challenge after spending six years at Inter and, well aware of the club’s previous Brazilian performers, hopes to do much better.

"Well, I want to do much more than they did", the 31-year-old told his new club’s official site.

"I think they are two great players and two great friends, but I’m going to make my own history.

"I want to make great history at Manchester City as I have done over here at Inter.

"I want to make my history over there and that’s why I have made this decision and I’m sure everything will be alright because I’m going to work alongside great players, so it will be a pleasure for me to be working alongside them and also to be able to help them win many titles."

Maicon is expected to join up with his new team-mates after the international break.

Rated as one of the finest attacking full-backs in world football, the 31-year-old has clocked up 66 caps for Brazil, winning the 2004 and 2007 Copa Americas with the South American giants.
