The mystery over Cristiano Ronaldo’s apparent unhappiness at Real Madrid is deepening, with the player’s agent insisting he knows why his client feels as he does.

Ronaldo refused to celebrate when he found the back of the net against Granada at the weekend, despite scoring twice.

Post-match he said that he was feeling "sad for professional reasons" and added that "the people in the club know why".

It had been suggested that the Portuguese was unhappy at missing out on the Best Player in Europe award to Andres Iniesta, but he denied that this is behind his behaviour.

And Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, added to the sense of uncertainty around the former Manchester United man by insisting that he is not surprised by what has unfolded.

"I know his reasons and this is an issue that he has chosen not to reveal", the agent told Spanish daily Marca.

"His remarks have not surprised me and they did not cause me discomfort.

"Those who know my relationship with him will know I always stand by him."

It remains to be seen exactly what is troubling Ronaldo, with some sources in Spain claiming the forward "does not feel wanted" at the Bernabeu.

The situation will be one Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho will hope to iron out as soon as possible, as it threatens to become the main focus at Los Blancos.
