Belgium defender Vincent Kompany has told his countrymen not to underestimate Wales when the two meet for the start of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers this evening.

Kompany and co. head to the Cardiff City Stadium to face Wales for a 19:45 kick-off and will have securing three points on their mind.

Belgium, who boast a fine crop of talent including Eden Hazard and Axel Witsel, are confident of booking a spot at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, but must come through what promises to be a competitive Group A, which also includes Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia and Scotland.

But while Belgium are targeting the win away from home, Kompany has warned his team-mates not to underestimate what is an improving Welsh side.

"Maybe Belgium has a lot of players who play in the Premier League, but Wales do too", Kompany told a press conference.

"The biggest mistake we can make would be to underestimate them."

The Manchester City captain did insist though that, if Belgium play to their full potential for every World Cup qualifier, they are capable of winning them all.

"If we focus on our performance, if we play like a solid team, then we are able to win most, if not all, of the games in this group.

"Obviously this is unrealistic, but we must make this assumption. We must think about our quality first."

After facing Wales, Belgium host Croatia on Tuesday evening.
