Diego Lugano does not want to leave Paris Saint-Germain, despite having been omitted by coach Carlo Ancelotti from the club’s squad for the Champions League.
The tough-tackling Uruguayan centre-back appears surplus to requirements at the Parc des Prince but, on a lucrative contract signed last summer upon joining PSG from Fenerbahce, does not wish to head for the exit door.
Lugano was linked with several clubs during the summer transfer window, though all moves would have involved taking a pay cut.
"My contract is really good, it was a decisive factor in my choice", the 31-year-old told Ovacion.
"I live in France, I moved to a big club and my salary is high, so why should I [leave]?"
There is though one development which would cause the former Sao Paulo man to think twice about kicking his heels on the sidelines at PSG.
"However, if my situation in Paris was to affect my future, I would think about it, because the national team is too important to me."
Lugano earns €340,000 per month at PSG and has two years remaining on his contract.
