On the eve of France’s 2014 World Cup qualifying clash against Belarus, Les Bleus goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has refused to be drawn on his situation at Tottenham Hotspur.
The 25-year-old joined Spurs on transfer deadline day after the London giants reached an agreement with Lyon over the shot-stopper. And the completion of the deal ended what had been a long saga linking Lloris with a switch to White Hart Lane.
Rated the best French goalkeeper at present, Lloris was expected to become number 1 straight away at his new club.
But Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has insisted American goalkeeper Brad Friedel retains the jersey for now and, with the 41-year-old in inspired form, this has raised concerns in France that Lloris might miss out on vital playing time.
The issue has dominated in recent days, but Lloris will not be drawn on what could be a tricky situation at White Hart Lane.
"It is the eve of the match, it would be inappropriate to talk about my situation", said the goalkeeper when questioned at a press conference.
Lloris has already played twice in Ligue 1 this season for Lyon.
It remains to be seen just how many appearances he will clock up at White Hart Lane.
