Zlatan Ibrahimovic believes that Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-1 thrashing of Dynamo Kyiv in their Champions League opener last night is a good omen for the future.
relatedNewsStory PSG fielded a side that contained many players with no Champions League experience and the club were only returning to Europe’s elite competition through having finished second in last season’s Ligue 1.
Drawn in a group containing Dynamo Kyiv, FC Porto and Dinamo Zagreb, PSG were quickly installed as favourites, but producing the goods on the pitch was always set to be different to winning on paper.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men did not disappoint though, going 3-0 up by half-time – Ibrahimovic scored the opener from the penalty spot – and then hitting back late on when the Ukrainian giants had secured a consolation, to leave the final score 4-1.
And Ibrahimovic was happy with what he saw and thinks it clearly points to a positive road ahead for his side.
"It was a first game, it was hard, we won, but we must continue to work hard", said the 30-year-old.
"This is a good signal for the future", he added.
"If we won, it is not because Kyiv were poor, but because we played well.
"This gives us confidence for the next game against Porto, who are a quality team."
