Xavi’s agent has revealed that Barcelona want to open talks about a contract extension for the midfielder.
The pass-master is a key figure at the Camp Nou and the Catalan giants want to ensure that a fresh deal is signed by the 32-year-old soon.
relatedNewsStory Xavi’s current contract at Barcelona expires in 2014, but there is little suggestion the midfielder sees his future elsewhere.
Even so, contract talks can take time and Barcelona are keen to begin them early.
"On Friday the club informed me that they want to renew his contract, which expires in 2014", Xavi’s agent Ivan Corretja told Esport3.
"It is normal that we begin discussions this early. In June it would be too late."
Xavi is well on target to end his career as one of the rare breed of "one club men".
The Spain international joined Barcelona in 1991, rising through the club’s youth ranks to make his senior debut in 1998.
Xavi made his debut against Real Mallorca in the Spanish Super Cup final, a game he scored in.
He has since gone on to win a veritable sackful of medals, picking up six La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys, five Super Cups, three Champions Leagues, two UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups.
