Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has revealed that Chelsea are keeping a close eye on his progress at Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen.

De Bruyne is on a season-long loan at the German club from Chelsea, who decided a year of first team football in the tough environs of the Bundesliga would benefit the talented attacking midfielder.

relatedNewsStory The 21-year-old was snapped up by the Blues in the 2012 January transfer window from Genk, but instantly loaned back to the Belgian side to finish the season in the Jupiler Pro League.

In the summer De Bruyne joined Chelsea on their pre-season tour of North America, being assessed by manager Roberto Di Matteo and the club’s coaches, before the decision was taken to send him to Werder Bremen.

But just because the Belgium international is now in northern Germany, the Blues have not taken their eye off him and have instead been in regular contact with their starlet.

It is something which has pleased De Bruyne no end.

"So far, the amount I’ve played was the intention", he told Sporza.

"It was also the hope of Chelsea.

"The assistant coach [of Chelsea] calls me almost every week. They are following me very closely."

De Bruyne has also noticed a big step up in terms of quality between the German top flight and the Belgian Jupiler Pro League.

"The level is higher in the Bundesliga than in Belgium.

"It is faster. I really like my role as a playmaker in the team."
