German giants Schalke have extended the contract of highly-rated Greek defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos.
The former Olympiacos player, who joined Schalke in 2010 from the Greek giants, has agreed to stay with the club until 2016, in a development which should put paid to consistent talk of a transfer elsewhere.
relatedNewsStory Papadopoulos was chased by Russian champions Zenit St. Petersburg over the summer, but Schalke stood firm and refused to sell the young central defender.
Papadopoulos has insisted that he is only too pleased to be committing his future to Schalke.
"I feel very good at Schalke", said the Greece international.
"I hope to play for the club for many years."
Papadopoulos enjoyed a fine campaign last season, particularly shining with Greece at Euro 2012.
Fernando Santos’ side unexpectedly came through Group A in Poland/Ukraine, before eventually falling foul of Germany.
Papadopoulos will hope to continue his development at Schalke, both in the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
