Paris Saint-Germain are not far off the level of Barcelona and Europe’s other elite clubs, believes Brazilian full-back Maxwell.
The 31-year-old defender joined PSG in the January 2012 transfer window, completing a switch from Barcelona, where he had spent two and a half years.
relatedNewsStory Maxwell has seen PSG continue to add to their squad, bringing in stars such as Thiago Silva, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic – and life in the Champions League began with a bang, as the French giants thrashed Dynamo Kyiv 4-1.
While Barcelona must still be grouped ahead of PSG, Maxwell believes his new side, following their heavy spending, are not too far off matching the Spanish club.
"The balance between attack and defence is much better", said the full-back, when asked what has changed at the Parc des Princes.
"Comparisons with Barcelona are a bit wrong.
"But the current PSG team has been strengthened so much that eventually it can be measured against such teams."
PSG are back in Champions League action on Wednesday night, with a trip to Portuguese champions FC Porto.
The 2004 Champions League winners are considered PSG’s main competitors in Group A.
