Bayern Munich were "clever and smart" against Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga earlier today, in the view of the club’s coach Jupp Heynckes.

The veteran boss admitted he was hoping to see his side bounce back from losing their last game – Bayern Munich went down 3-1 to BATE Borisov in the Champions League – and was happy with what he saw as they eased to a 2-0 victory.

relatedNewsStoryFranck Ribery put the Bavarians ahead after 19 minutes, before virtually settling the game just three minutes after the restart in the second half.

Hoffenheim could not find a way to break Bayern Munich’s rhythm in a game they dominated and Heynckes’ men made it seven wins from seven games in the Bundesliga and now lead last season’s champions Borussia Dortmund – who hold a game in hand – by ten points.

"It was important to win after losing the last game", said the Bayern Munich coach.

"A defeat can always happen, but we responded very well", he added.

"You have to consider that on Tuesday we had a hard game, but nevertheless we played smart and clever and that allows us to break through anyone defensively.

"We dominated and gave Hoffenheim no chances to score.

"We are highly motivated and took the lead from the start."
