Former Germany midfielder Michael Ballack has announced that he intends to take his coaching qualifications.

Ballack recently retired from playing after choosing not to extend his career.

relatedNewsStoryThe midfielder parted ways with Bayer Leverkusen at the end of last season and, despite a multitude of offers, decided to hang up his boots.

But for Ballack, who enjoyed playing spells with both Bayern Munich and Chelsea, as well as starring at international level with Germany, his love affair with football is not yet over.

And it could continue in the dugout.

"I find the trainer side interesting, watching football and it’s therefore an education", the 36-year-old told German daily Bild.

"Whenever I agree to start, the door is open", he added.

It remains to be seen whether Ballack will complete his coaching qualifications and ultimately continue his career in the dugout as a coach.
