Olivier Giroud has insisted he always had faith in his ability to score for Arsenal.
The France striker had to wait until last weekend to open his Premier League account for the Gunners, with a goal against West Ham in a 3-1 victory.
relatedNewsStoryPressure had been beginning to build on Giroud to break his league duck, especially as he arrived at the Emirates Stadium fresh off having finished as last season’s Ligue 1 as top scorer, helping Montpellier to claim the title in the process.
Now that the monkey is off Giroud’s back, he has revealed he never doubted it would soon be the case.
“I am very well integrated [into the Arsenal team]. I created opportunities from my first match”, he told French radio station RMC.
“It was essentially a question of efficiency and patience”, continued Giroud.
“When it becomes like this, it seems the goal is smaller, it is not as easy to score.
“This happens to a striker.
“In these periods you just have to keep working hard and trust in yourself.”
Giroud will be hoping to keep his scoring boots on over the international break with France, before Arsenal return to Premier League action on 20th October against Norwich.
