Former Barcelona coach Josep Guardiola would be the perfect successor to Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, in the opinion of ex-Blaugrana defender Rafael Marquez.
The Mexican currently turns out for MLS side New York Red Bulls and has run into Guardiola in New York; the Spaniard is living in the American city as he has a year out of the game.
relatedNewsStorySpeculation is rife over where Guardiola, who left as Barcelona coach at the end of last season, will resume his career.
In the opinion of Marquez, who played under Guardiola at the Camp Nou between 2008 and 2010, as part of a seven-year spell with the Catalan giants, the world-class coach could do worse than take over at the Emirates Stadium, when Wenger moves on.
The Gunners would, believes the defender, be a perfect fit for Guardiola.
“I’ve run into him several times since he arrived in New York”, Marquez told Cadena Ser.
“I’m sure he will soon return to football and that will be in the Premier League”, the 33-year-old continued.
“He would be the perfect coach for Arsenal.”
Guardiola has been linked with another of London’s giants in the form of Champions League winners Chelsea. However, current boss Roberto Di Matteo has led the Blues in impressive fashion so far this season.
Whenever and wherever Guardiola returns, he is sure to attract attention after a hugely successful spell at Barcelona, which saw him pick up three La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys and two Champions Leagues, amongst numerous other successes.
